Radisys, a provider of embedded wireless infrastructure solutions for telecom, aerospace, defense and public safety applications, and a technology partner of appliance deployment provider NEI (News - Alert), has just launched a carrier-grade network appliance platform based on server-class Intel processors. The RMS-220 solution will help meet increasing demands for Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and networking applications by offering users a highly scalable design based on innovative next-generation technology.
As more network operators continue to leverage DPI-based and network monitoring applications, which include policy enforcement, lawful intercept security, network probe and others, to enhance bandwidth, the RMS-220 allows them to deploy a flexible appliance across various networks.
"Current rackmount servers are very limited in their ability to address networking solution requirements. Field configurability of I/O, storage, and power supply without de-racking the system, and minimization of service downtime with hotswap capabilities can translate to significant reductions in operational cost and complexity. This coupled with high performance in a NEBS compliant short-depth form factor is very compelling," Anand Uppili, chief executive officer of Torres Networks, a policy control solutions provider, said in a statement.
Meeting NEBS guidelines, the Radisys RMS-220 boasts a 2U high, 20-inch deep form factor and contains four front I/O modules, five front storage modules (HDD or SSD), redundant AC or DC power supply units (PSUs) and front serviceable fans. Additionally, the network appliance includes up to 10TB of local storage and powers a wide range of co-processing options including NetLogic (News - Alert) and Cavium processors.
"Radisys has more than 20 years of experience delivering innovative embedded products and a successful track record for providing our customers with the tools they need to develop competitive, differentiated solutions," Keate Despain (News - Alert), vice president and general manager, platforms, Radisys, added. "The RMS-220 network appliance platform is a strong complement to Radisys' long-standing product portfolio, expanding on the same embedded software and engineering expertise. We truly provide our customers with a one-stop-shop for their telecom infrastructure needs."
Radisys has been busy so far in 2012, and recently, C2Tech selected its 40G AdvancedTCA (News - Alert) platform to raise the level of performance of its deep packet inspect deployments for traffic monitoring. To read the full report, click here.
