In 2009, NEI announced new enhancements to its Element Manager 3.0, which now includes enhanced smart services for software developers. Mike Slattery, the director of software development at NEI, had a chance recently to discuss with TMC's (News - Alert) Marisa Torrieri how these smart services help developers build secure, hardened solutions that deliver on the promise of low-lifecycle maintenance.
Addressing the question of what their customers' number one concern for deploying next generation appliances, Slattery said within the customer community there are CEOs and VPs of product management whose chief concern is time to market: "It's always been a big concern of theirs, and in this economic environment, every market seems to be hyper-competitive."
As a result, getting the product out to market as fast as possible has become a top concern, Slattery said.
"When we're talking to CTOs and VPs of engineering, virtualization and the cloud are becoming a very big concern." The completeness of their services, he said, from everything to the update service, is really what differentiates us."
Last month TMC's Anil Sharma reported that NEI announced that its next-generation telecommunications platform -- the A-13000 multi-vendor 10G ATCA (Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture) -- achieved NEBS Level 3 Certification.
Achieving this standard guarantees that equipment intended for use in telecom central office environments has met an extensive set of environmental and safety tests to ensure network performance and reliability under extreme conditions.
Officials with NEI said that the A-13000 provides carriers, service providers and telecommunications equipment manufacturers with an integrated, scalable and high-availability platform designed to accommodate the rapid deployment of wire-speed communication applications such as WiMAX (News - Alert) and LTE.
The company officials said that NEI has uniquely combined standard ATCA components from multiple vendors into a fully integrated and tested carrier-grade solution to create a platform on which Network Equipment Providers and TEMs can quickly and reliably deliver multimedia and other throughput-dependent applications.
