AirWatch Announces Software Appliance Availability

August 10, 2010

AirWatch (News - Alert), which sells Mobile Device and WLAN Management software, has announced the availability of the AirWatch software appliance.

The company is providing its mobile device management product preloaded on a dedicated software appliance. AirWatch officials say it's offering three flexible delivery options: software deployed behind the corporate firewall, Software as a Service and a software appliance.

“The addition of the AirWatch software appliance means all companies, regardless of their size, IT resources or devices used, now have access to industry-leading mobile device management functionality,” company officials said.

John Marshall, AirWatch’s CEO, said the software appliance "provides all the benefits of an MDM product, but without the cost often associated with them.”

Late last month TMC (News - Alert) had the news that AirWatch announced the release of AirWatch 5.11, which includes the globalization of the AirWatch management console and the addition of standard APIs for improved communication and deeper integration between AirWatch and other enterprise systems.

Designed to support rapid mobile device deployments behind the corporate firewall, the AirWatch software appliance "lets companies secure, monitor, manage and support all their corporate-liable and employee-liable devices, regardless of the type or location," company officials say, adding that AirWatch "provides corporate IT with a single, integrated, real-time view of all their mobile devices used across the organization."

The AirWatch software appliance consists of the AirWatch application pre-configured and pre-integrated, along with all required middleware and operating system software, pre-installed on a server, which customers can add to a pre-existing stack.

Pricing for the AirWatch Software Appliance starts at $4,995 and includes the hardware preloaded and preconfigured with the web-based AirWatch management console, 100 AirWatch licenses for any type of mobile device, all required third-party software licenses and maintenance for the first year.
